Somewhere (2010)

Director: Sofia Coppola
Stars: Stephen Dorff, Elle Fanning

After withdrawing to the Chateau Marmont, a passionless Hollywood actor reexamines his life when his eleven-year-old daughter surprises him with a visit.

I didn’t really enjoy this movie. Maybe because I wasn’t really in the mood for existentialist-soul searching kind of movie these days. I also found most of the scenes really dragging. There were scenes where there’s nothing really happening in several minutes.

What I liked:

The actors delivered really good performances.

I discovered that Italy showbiz is very much similar to Philippine showbiz. We also tend to look up to Hollywood actors and give them VIP treatment when they visit our country.

That featured F.R.I.E.N.D.S episode dubbed in Italian. 😉

The strippers-pole dancers dancing in Foo Fighters’ Hero and Cleo ice skating to No Doubt’s Cool. In other words, I loved the soundtrack. It’s a hipster movie, so what do we expect, hehe.

  1. Hello. 🙂 I didn’t enjoy this movie either. Too slow-paced and very similar to Lost in Translation in both form and content. I guess you have to be in a certain “soul search-y” mood to enjoy a Sofia Coppola film, eh?
