In a twist to the fairy tale, the Huntsman ordered to take Snow White into the woods to be killed winds up becoming her protector and mentor in a quest to vanquish the Evil Queen.
Surprisingly, I liked Snow White and the Huntsman. See kids, it really does good if you have minimum expectations with things.
Generally, I don’t expect much from movies that are spin-offs or those that are based from books. People always butcher the characters or the plot just to sell the movie.
Snow White and the Huntsman is a lot better than the spin-off of Red Riding Hood (2010). I couldn’t compare it to Beastly because they did a different attack in it, the latter is more of a drama while the other two are supposed to be dark.
Snow White and the Huntman’s storyline is good, and most of the actors gave justice to their characters, except for the lead. Most of the time in the movie, I thought, Kristen still thinks she’s Bella, that poker-faced, no-emotions girl, just waiting for her man monster to save her. But thank goodness to her being boyish, somehow at the final quarter, she managed to carry out Snow White’s character, which is a far cry from the damsel in distress little Disney princess. Kristen is still too boyish for all those princess-y clothes she had to wear, but I understand the importance of that element so they couldn’t just ditch the puffy clothes away, hehe.
Charlize Theron showcased a quality acting, as expected. I wished they gave her more fight scenes. Come on, she is a very powerful evil queen! Same with Chris Hemsworth, he’s good and he’s supposed to be 1/3 of the movie but since Snow White got a lot of heroes, there was William and the 8 dwarfs, the Huntsman had to share screen time with them. I thought the movie’s gonna be more about Snow White and the Huntsman in the battle field.
I actually expected a lot more action scenes for Snow White since I thought it’s gonna be a rough version of Snow White basing on the movie posters with Kristen Stewart in an armor. Yeah, it was pretty rough, but if they are gonna make a sequel to this, I’d like to see a Snow White in sword, fighting. Also, I also wished they had better costumes.
